Well here we are! The adventure begins….together!

“For surely I know I the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm; to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord.”

Last weekend we welcomed Kevin Connors as our sacramental minister at the Sunday Masses and I would like to add that I am looking forward to working with Kevin in the Parish.

The timetable below will give you some idea of how I will organise my time during the week.  Each week I will update the plan for the week taking into account the various meetings and events occurring at the time. However I would like to keep Tuesdays for Eastbourne (San Antonio) and Fridays for Carterton/Greytown (St Mary’s) as far as possible to give some stability to the plan. I am available for appointments, either by parish phone 379 8033 or a/h 379 8279; 027 657 5512 cell; but otherwise just pop in for a chat and a coffee. The door will be open and you will be welcome. Kevin will be available for baptisms and weddings as well as the weekend Masses.

You will need to contact me with the details and I will liaise with Kevin and confirm arrangements with you. I will be working closely with the Parish Pastoral Development Team, Father Kevin Connors and the Finance Committee. I will also be on the St Mary’s Board of Trustees and look forward to working with the school in a new role.

This Parish has always been a very important part of my life and my dream is that, together, we will continue to grow and develop using our Parish Vision and Mission statement as our chart for the future.

Fifth Sunday of the Year

VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Do you have a spare 5 hours once a month to help your local community?

Alzheimers Wairarapa have a wonderful Day Care Centre running on a Tuesday and Friday of each week. This gives our unique clients a fun day out where they participate in activities such as bowls, bingo, singing, outings etc. It also gives their carers a wee break. It runs from 10am till 3pm.

On these days there is the support of other volunteers and a trained Diversional Therapist. Your help is required to serve morning and afternoon tea, as well as serving lunch. (You also get a hot meal for lunch, and the morning and afternoon).

We require some more volunteers whom we can roster for one day each month – (which ever is convenient – either a Tuesday or a Friday).

It is a very rewarding day – helping our clients who are all lovely people and self-sufficient.

If you think you could assist once a month please contact Cherie at the Alzheimers Office phone 377 0066.

Mark 1: 29-39

On leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simon and Andrew. Now Simon’s mother-in-law had gone to bed with fever, and they told him about her straightaway. He went to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began to wait on them.

That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed by devils. The whole town came crowding round the door, and he cured many who were suffering from diseases of one kind or another; he also cast out many devils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.

In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house, and went off to a lonely place and prayed there. Simon and his companions set out in search of him, and when they found him they said, ‘Everybody is looking for you’. He answered, ‘Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring country towns, so that I can preach there too, because that is why I came’. And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out devils.
