Newsletter 27 October 2011

27 October 2011

Dear Parents, Caregivers, Family and Friends

What an exciting end to the holidays. Thank goodness Monday was a holiday or there would have been a few teachers and students struggling.

As I start to write this a few of our students have headed off to Wellington for you know what!

We are looking forward to a short but very busy term.

VALUES HOMEWORK

Thank you to the parents who supported the 76% of children who returned the homework sheets. I have collated them and interestingly we have come up with exactly the same four values as previously.

1st Love/kindness/ caring/compassion which will be grouped as Aroha. *

2nd Respect

3rd Integrity

4th Excellence

The rest of the top ten were;

5th responsible/trustworthy/sensible

6th supporting each other/friendship

7th diligence/dedication/hardwork

8th inclusiveness

9th = sense of justice/fairness

9th= generosity/sharing

As you can see I have grouped where it seemed appropriate.

We will continue to ‘unpack’ a value each term with a few changes in definitions.

*We are using the word AROHA because the definition of it is love, pity, concern for, compassion, empathy

BIRTHDAY THIS WEEK

30/10 Louis Penman 8

SUMMER UNIFORM REMINDER

Coloured tee shirts are not to be worn under summer uniforms as they show at the neck.

If a child is cold they should be wearing their polo fleece.

MISSING POLO FLEECE

Please check again. This almost new fleece is still missing – it is named and there is a reward offered for its safe return.

MISSING PICNIC TABLES

During the holidays the two recently repaired picnic tables behind Room 3 went AWOL. Does anyone know anything about them or can you remember seeing them during the holidays?

RUGBY QUOTE FOR THE WEEK

To Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips, Gordonstoun School’s rugby captain, for his pre-match coin-toss preference -Grandmother or tails, sir?
Anon rugby referee (1995)

I am looking forward to seeing you all at Pet Day on Friday next week. We don’t usually cancel but please listen to local radio station at approx. 7.30 am if you are not sure.

God Bless You All

News from the office

SUN HATS

Stock has now arrived in the school office – please come in and pick up your ordered hats – they cost is $12 each.

PET DAY 4 November

Please return any remaining entry forms to the school office tomorrow.

Please return any trophies won last year.

On the day………….

9.00am – Decorated Biscuits or cake to arrive at school.  These are not tasted by the judges and you take them home again at the end of the day – wine biscuits work well.

Bring materials for construction, sand saucer, flowers in a novelty container, garden scene tray or plate and decorated shoe.  These will be ‘built’ in the classrooms during the first hour of the morning.

10.00am – Animals arrive at school.

Dogs are to be tied along the fence line adjacent to the netball court.  Please provide water.

Lambs will be in the ring on the field, beyond the children’s playground and must be on a lead.

Cats must be in a cage and children are not to open the cages for any reason.  (We have lost a cat in the past and do not wish for this to happen again).

All miscellaneous animals – birds, mice, rabbits etc. must also be in a secure cage of some type.

Children are to label their cage with the animals name and will be sitting with their pets after the classroom activities.

Judging begins late morning and prize giving follows early afternoon.

Please start thinking about what you are able to help us with.  We will require plates of food for the judges and also sweet baking products to sell to the children

Bring along coins as there will be food and drinks for sale.

FRIENDS MEETING (Pet day)

As Pet Day is fast approaching a Friends meeting will be held on Tuesday 1 November, 7.30pm.
